Our Mission

Recognising the 15 million men sitting beside her.

01 / The Issue

The Blind Spot

When a woman is diagnosed with cancer, the system quite rightly mobilises around her.

Globally, more than 5 million women are diagnosed each year across the most common cancers affecting women — including breast, lung, colorectal, uterine, ovarian, cervical, melanoma and brain cancer. This number is projected to rise materially by 2050.

Across the four largest English-speaking countries alone, more than 1.2 million women are diagnosed every year. Using the internationally recognised five-year benchmarks and a conservative 2.5 male-exposure multiplier, this equates to more than 15 million men directly connected to a woman’s cancer journey at any given time.

  • Partners
  • Fathers
  • Sons
  • Brothers
  • Friends

They are present in every room, in every treatment setting and in every home, where diagnosis reshapes daily life. Yet structurally, they remain largely unsupported. The Other Chair exists to address this global blind spot.

02 / The Mathematics

The emotional load is not anecdotal. It is mathematical.

03 / Trajectory

Why This Will Grow

This is not a temporary surge. It is a rising curve.

Women’s cancer incidence is projected to increase globally by approximately 30–40% by 2050.

If incidence rises proportionately across the US, UK, Canada and Australia, annual diagnoses across those four nations could move from more than 1.2 million to approximately 1.6 million per year.

Applying the same five-year survivorship framework and conservative exposure multiplier, the number of men connected to a woman’s cancer journey at any given time could exceed 20 million.

This is not a shrinking issue. It is a structural global trajectory. The Other Chair is being built to respond to that growth responsibly, credibly and at scale.
