The Other Chair was not created from research papers or strategy sessions. It was created from lived experience.
Over four years navigating his wife’s cancer journey, founder Malcolm Quinn found himself having the same conversations with husbands, partners, fathers and sons.
Different stories. Different families. Often the same feeling.
Many were trying to stay strong for the woman they loved while quietly carrying fear, uncertainty and emotional weight of their own.
The Other Chair is being created to change that, providing practical support, lived experience and honest conversations for the men sitting beside her.
Because millions of men sit in that other chair.
Our Approach
What Makes The Other Chair Different.
Everything we produce is designed to reduce isolation, clarify responsibility and create language for experiences many men struggle to articulate.
Who We Serve
Across every stage of the journey
We serve the man who is steady publicly but uncertain privately. Cancer does not recognise borders — and neither do we.
Stage 01
Initial Diagnosis
The first reshaping of daily life.
Stage 02
Active Treatment
Sustained logistical and emotional load.
Stage 03
Remission
A new normal — still uncertain.
Stage 04
Recurrence
Returning to the room, again.
Stage 05
Long-term Survivorship
The years that follow.
How We Are Funded
A model built on aligned support.
The Other Chair is a not-for-profit charitable organisation. Our funding model is built on four foundations.
Public Support
Individuals who recognise the gap and contribute to closing it.
Philanthropic Contributions
Foundations and trusts aligned with our mission.
Fundraising Campaigns
Structured campaigns supporting each pillar's establishment.
Corporate Partnerships
Future partnerships with organisations whose values align with ours.
Safeguarding and Boundaries
Clear about what we are — and what we are not.
The Other Chair provides structured support content. It does not provide medical advice, clinical counselling or emergency intervention.
We encourage all users to seek professional medical and psychological support where needed.
As the platform expands, safeguarding frameworks, moderation policies and ethical review processes will continue to evolve to ensure safety, privacy and responsible growth.
